Bus relocation in the city centre delayed by two weeks

25 August 2017

Newcastle City Council and Supercars Australia have advised that Watt Street will need to remain closed for longer than initially expected, due to unavoidable delays.

As such, plans to relocate buses off Hunter Street ahead of light rail construction have been delayed by two weeks.

Bus relocations scheduled for 27 August will now occur on 10 September.

“I am advised all reasonable measures have been taken to avoid this delay,” Campbell Mason, CEO Keolis Downer Hunter said.

“Our main priority is to minimise disruption to our passengers during this busy time and we thank them for their patience.”

Revitalising Newcastle Program Director, Michael Cassel said the delay does not impact the timeline for light rail construction, which is still on track.

The Revitalising Newcastle team will continue to work with the organisers of the Supercars event to ensure this unforeseen delay can be resolved as quickly as possible.
